Show Up – Recreating the 1934 strike that shook San Francisco and Rocked the Pacific Coast

2023-04-06T17:55:39+00:00April 15th, 2022|Categories: Event, Notice|

Brothers and Sisters, On May 9, 1934, West Coast longshoremen went on strike, shutting down docks along 2000 miles of coastline, including all its major ports: Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, San Francisco, San Pedro, San Diego. This iconic day in labor was an 83-day-long strike for fair wages, hours, and the abolishment of extreme and unfair hiring practices.  In 1934 workers marched down Market Street, better known by San Francisco longshoremen as the Embarcadero “slave market”. So on May 1, 2022, officially known as International Workers' Day, the San Mateo Labor Council and other Councils (Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco), are leading a March & Rally.   We will be recreating the 1934 march up Market Street. We need you to show up if you can and march with Teamsters Local 2785. DETAILS: The event will kick off at 10 AM at the Embarcadero The march will begin at 10:30 AM and march up Market Street to Civic Center. Rally at Civic Center: (3-4 speakers) Our lead contingent this year will be UFCW and Teamsters, in support of their ”Make Amazon Pay” campaign. All Members, Help Teamsters Local 2785 take the fight for better UPS wages to Sacramento

2022-03-18T16:45:19+00:00March 17th, 2022|Categories: Event|

Brothers and Sisters, For months Teamsters Local 2785 has been aggressively pushing back on pay cuts for part-time UPS workers. Across California and Reno, Teamsters have been holding rallies at UPS hubs to protest this pay cut. If UPS successfully maintains these pay cuts, more efforts to cut UPS workers' pay and benefits will start. That's right. They will be coming for full-time workers next. And with the 2023 UPS contract right around the corner, this should be something we should all be concerned with. So we are asking all Teamster 2785 members to step up for your brothers' and sisters' jobs! Teamsters Local 2785 is bringing the fight to the next level at the State legislature in Sacramento on Thursday, March 24th, and we need you to show up!! We have a bus going to Sacramento at 7 AM on March 24th. Please show up for the day and support if you can make it. Food and drinks will be provided for the day.
