Brothers and Sisters, On May 9, 1934, West Coast longshoremen went on strike, shutting down docks along 2000 miles of coastline, including all its major ports: Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, San Francisco, San Pedro, San Diego. This iconic day in labor was an 83-day-long strike for fair wages, hours, and the abolishment of extreme and unfair hiring practices.  In 1934 workers marched down Market Street, better known by San Francisco longshoremen as the Embarcadero “slave market”. So on May 1, 2022, officially known as International Workers' Day, the San Mateo Labor Council and other Councils (Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco), are leading a March & Rally.   We will be recreating the 1934 march up Market Street. We need you to show up if you can and march with Teamsters Local 2785. DETAILS: The event will kick off at 10 AM at the Embarcadero The march will begin at 10:30 AM and march up Market Street to Civic Center. Rally at Civic Center: (3-4 speakers) Our lead contingent this year will be UFCW and Teamsters, in support of their ”Make Amazon Pay” campaign.
